4th October 2020 Windsurfing: Point Clear Wind Direction: SSW Wind Stength: 20/28 Surf / Sea State: flatish Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: cloudy and wet:( Max Speed: 30.34 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 36 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Sunday 4th October - Windsurf **** - Point Clear – cloudy, wet and cold :(. Fin – 30.34 knot max, 28.36 knot ave ., 13.51 knot hour, 19.28 knot mile, 57.68 km ., 18.47 knot alpha. F2 277 Ride with and 30 f-hot fin and Tushingham X-15 5.8. Being cat people for most of our married life and not having lost our Holly three years ago we thought it was time to have them back in our lives again so Mag found Benny and Rue at Kitty Kat Rescue. After sorting out the payment etc we arranged to pick them up from Brightlingsea late this afternoon which worked really well for a windsurfing session at Point Clear first:) The forecast for today was pretty poor, summer has now really disappeared and will this rain ever stop! The wind today was SSW increasing during the afternoon with expected gust to 40 knots so I was happy to sail in the safety of the lagoon. We arrived at the Green at Point Clear around 11.30, first to arrive, in fact windsurfers were a bit thin on the ground today, not helped by the none stop rain! With 30 knots on the gauge in the car park but as usual much less on the beach around 23 I thought it was perhaps too much for my 7m so went with my 5.8 which was OK but I might have been better off with my 6.4 but at least I only had one sail to derig in the rain at the end:) I put my wetsuit on before rigging and after having a chat with Paul Vickers who had just arrived but was not overly keen as the van told him the temperature was only 8 degrees! I was first on the water and wore my neoprene hat and helmut today in an effort to keep warm but was on the water pretty much none stop for three hours and was OK:) With a lot of south in the wind it was a slow beat into the lagoon which I had to myself to half an hour:) I had some nice runs across with some nice gybing in flat water either side. Nothing really fast as the wind was lightest where the water was flattest:( I was then joined by F -Hots slalom sailor Shaun Cook out with 7m who soon registered 34 knots on his gps and I had made one 30 knot run, always pleasing:) Shaun soon went back and changed down to 6.4 and we sent a lot of the session racing across the lagoon, that modern slalom kit certainly goes well! With the tide now high it did chop up for a while especially in the middle and as usual you had to keep an eye open for weed! I was going back to Mag for lunch but decided to stay out and see if the conditions would improve as the tide dropped. They did but the wind was patchy not helped by my 100 lt. board and 5.8 sail but I am loving my old F2 Ride 277 and it gybes like a dream:) Getting tired now it was time to call it a day and headed back, there was some real killer chop out of the lagoon and I was pleased to land. So, a good session despite the horrible weather, nice company too and no kitesurfers, always a bonus:) I packed up quickly and got the wetsuit off before warming up in the van with yummy homemade soup before driving the 9 miles to Brightlingsea to pick up the new members of our family. With paperwork done, cats in our old basket we head for home with not a beep out of them! It takes Benny and Rue ages to be brave enough to leave the basket, then find several other hiding places but it is now nearly 11 o clock and they have come out of hiding and our playing with Mags wool.
