Wednesday 4th September – walk ***** National Trust – Nymans – sunny periods.

After a lovely with Grandson Arlo at his home today we had to take him to his swimming lesson 8 miles down the road at Horsham. We woke to rain which is always cool on the roof of the van but it soon cleared. With picnic packed Mag, Arlo and I set off for a day out, first off Arlo’s swimming lesson where Mag put him through his paces, I would have gone in but we thought it best to keep my grazed leg dry so I watched from the balcony above. After the lesson they swim outside and enjoy a splash there. Then it’s a quick play in the park before heading over to the National Trust,s Nymans house and garden. We realised we had left our NT membership cards in our van but parked up by the public foot path which runs right through the middle of the site and we snuck in the back. With Arlo in his buggy we do the stunning woodland walk looking for a nice spot for our picnic. We found a nice spot by the lake but the large number of noisy ducks frightened us off! We saw all the wood carvings this time, the owls, kingfisher and frog and found a log seat under the massive red woods for our salad while Arlo tucked into tiger bread and ham followed by yummy chocolate cake and all the time the strong wind was blowing pines leaves on us from high above! Yes, it was windy and I missed a good days windsurfing at home with both Bradfield and Point Clear working but that’s sods law for you and I hope to get out at Portland Harbour on Friday! We continue up the slope past the sheep to the gardens and house which looked even better on our second visit with the sun out and a brilliant blue sky:) The gardens were still in full bloom as we headed back to the garden centre and van to start the trip to Sayers Croft. So a top day out in the Surrey/Sussex countryside with Arlo fast asleep in the back of the car!
