Forecast was good but could sail until 1pm ish so heading to the reservoir for 4th foil session, as wind didn't turn up last effort.
Most fin sailors went to the rivers, but tide was early so no good for me.
On arrival there was some nice gusts and the morning sailors had a good session. Yep soon as I rigged Goya Mark 8.5 / 147 Ultrasonic / RRD foil, the wind dropped! The locals as always blamed me!
Had a couple of flights with good length but not much as the wind was now useless, just coming in small gusts. The other sailors called it a day but I had to keep trying, as had to do some foil testing after some kit tweaks. Shortened harness lines from 30 to 26" (using a waist harness) and that worked great, as I flew in harness with no probs.
I now move MF mid to back in lightwinds and that worked as I could definitely flight on gusts easier.
All the tweaks worked and I can now fly at will fairly comfortably, but still cant go upwind for long, as I either spin out heeling the board too heavy, or not bring the sail over my head far enough.
Am now ready for the rivers as pretty confident I can control down flights and if necessary just sail normal to get back up wind. Today Alton was straight across and I completed full flight across, so ready to try elsewhere.
I still prefer fin, but I can see in 10-12 knots, the value of foiling, but will mainly switch to fin at 15-20, because I am still standing still on a foil to keep flights going which to me is no real fun, like buzzing my slalom board around chasing other sailors, then banking into a gybe, especially on flat water. Cant see that happening on foil this season.
