Thursday 18th April - bike ***** – Hemley Church to Martlesham via
Waldringfield – sunny periods.
Wednesday 17th April – Felixstowe Ferry.
There was talk of seeing the Northernn Lights in Suffolk so after a spell
of heavy rain it cleared so I drove down to Felixstowe Ferry around nnine
to check it out. Sadly there was too much cloud facing north but I had a
nnice time walking around the boatyard taking a few pics in the dark and
got some OK shoots but no red or green in the sky, hoping for better luck
next time.
Thursday Bike ride.
With light winds forecast for today it looked the ideal day to get out on
our bikes but not before I had time to do my exercises in the sunshine
before packing yet another picnic, loading our bikes in the van we drove
over to Hemley Church arriving at midday. We then take the lane down by the
side of the church leading to a footpath leading to Waldringfield with
lovely views down to the River Deben. We stopped at Waldringfield Church to
check out the tree in full pink blossom, before turning right across the
fields past the large dead tree coming out inn the sailing club dinghy park
by the Deben. We then walk along the beach to the Maybush before taking the
quiet country lanes that wind their way to Martlesham. We take a narrow
footpath past a bluebell wood coming out on the edge of Martlesham Wilds
Nature Reserve before heading to the church now full of green alkanet and
buttercups, just lovely. We enjoyed a peacefull picnic on the round seat
listening to our bird app, Merlin which heard another 14 birds! Well rested
we then carry on down Church Lane turning left taking the busier lane back
before turning towards the A 14 and turning off on a super path that runs
above Newbourne Springs eventually coming out by the busy Fox pub, seeing a
muntjac before riding up the hill and then whizzing back to our van. A top
ten mile bike ride in amazing Suffolk countryside, then home for a cuppa,
tomorrow is looking cool and breezy but the wind from the NW so not a good
direction so we are looking forward to having the lovely Maeva for the
day:)
