Friday 25th March – bike **** – Long two rivers, Deben to the Orwell
with lunch at Falkenham – sunny and mild.
The good weather continues with another sunny, mild day here on the coast,
usual morning with exercises in the back garden with Mag heading up the
town. After four days of biking Mag decided to give todays ride a miss but
I still packed a picnic and set off on my bike around one arranging to meet
up with Mag at Falkenham Church after driving over in the van:) There was a
bit of a keen wind from the east which took the edge off the temperature
and there was nearly enough breeze to foil I think? I headed to Abby woods,
leading to The Grove and out onto Gulpher Road with another blue sky. I
whizzed down Marsh Lane making it quickly to Kings Fleet where every swan
in Suffolk must have been, either in the water or munching the farmers
wheat crop! I did a 100m along the Deben path and was treated to a swan fly
past which continued as I headed towards Falkenhan, stopping to get several
pics too! I got to the church at 2.25 and Mag had not arrived so I had a
walk around the church yard which is now full of daffodils:) Mag arrived
with the lunch and we sat with ‘Emily’ on our favourite bench but it
was chilly as it was now in the shade! The sandwiches were as good as usual
but it was too chilly to stay too long so I said goodbye to Mag taking the
bridleway/footpath route to Kirton, over the A 14 to Trimley. Grimston Lane
to the tree lined footpath coming out at Felixstowe docks. I then made a
detour to the view point to see if the digger had been fished out of the
Orwell. The work to the beach is now complete and they have made a good job
and yes, the digger has been pulled out of the rive and is waiting to be
taken away by the view point café. Then back through landguard Nature
reserve to the prom into the cool breeze and up Convalescent Hill, sadly I
have to walk up it as my gears are slipping on the smallest setting, they
need some adjustment! So, this is my 5 day of bike riding covering 67
miles with today being the longest, over 17 miles and all because my dodgy
heel makes walking difficult! When I got home, I discovered for the second
time this week I got two pics in the local paper, the Star:) There is a
slime chance of some foiling breeze over the weekend but looking pretty
marginal so am not holding my breath!
PS – its not that much fun cycling without Mag even if the scenery is
stunning!
