Thursday 9th May - bike **** – Around Felixstowe including a picnic by the Orwell – sunny and warm.

What a lovely day of wall to wall sunshine, there was nearly enough breeze to foil too which took me by surprise but we had arranged to head down to Felixstowe dock view point to see the container ship, the MSC Maeva leave port, we are not usually bothered by container ships lesving but this one has the same name as our Granddaughter:) We had hoped Maeva would be there with her mum and dad for a pic but the departure which was originally 3.30 was moved to 12.30 so they could not come, so Mag and I packed a picnic and headed done on our bikes at midday but not before I did my exercises in the sunny, warm back garden! We biked along the prom which was fairly busy and were pleased to reach the quietier Landguard nature Reserve and were greeted by an amazing red tamarisk bush reaching the view at 12.30 just as the yellow Harwich foot Ferry arrived. There were tugs near MSC Maeva at the far end of the dock on berth 6 so we sat on the beach in the sunshine to wait. The departure was delayed for awhile as the small container ship, the BG Onyx headed out first, Mag had a nice chat with some old friends before we had lunch on the beach as the Maeva slowly made its way from its berth. The Maeva slowly made its way out to sea as we finished our picnic so it was time to continue our ride out to the new walkway at the end of the Orwell and back through the reserve and back around to the beach huts at The Manor end where there was a border alive with wild flowers including clover with red flowers, poached egg plants and thrift just beautiful. We followed the prom for a short way before turning inland along Beach Road, past Mc Donalds leading to Maidstone road, a brief stop at The Grove medical centre to pick up a prescription, through the woods and across the park coming out in lovely countryside on Gulpher Road leading to the seafront. Then past the amazing daises on Brackenbury cliff and round again to the prom at The Fludyers, much quietier now, then up Bent Hill and home for a well deserved cuppa:)
