After yesterdays nice bike ride we wanted a change so it was pack another picnic, dive to the back of the garage to find the canoe which we haven't used for a year!!! I found everything except the pump:( so a quick trip to Argos on the way to The Dip soon cured that :) Mark Proyshyn was already there out on his SUP1. After 5mins the canoe was pumped and we were ready to go! The tide was fairly low so lots of shingle islands were out but the tide was still going out so it was slow going in the River Deben so we went behind the shingle bank which was better, I even walked and pulled the canoe for awhile! Near Bawdsey beach we crossed the river again and by staying close to the shore where the tide was slackest we managed to get past the sailing club where loads of families were crabbing from the beach. Past the jetty which was jam packed with people and where the harbour master was just about to set off with a boat full for a trip up-river:) We had a quick drift in the fishing boats before heading across the river to the Bawdsey side and to the beach where we landed and spent time collecting coal - we managed to get 3.5 kilo :) Getting hungry now we set off on the far side of the shingle bar and found an island to stop for our picnic:) spending a lovely hour watching the world go by, even managed a chapter of our books:) Then it was time to set off back, the wind had picked up a little and the sea was nice and choppy, we had fun at the end of a shingle spit with the waves coming in from all angles and Mag got soaked !!! We zig- zagged back to The Dip - it's a nightmare trying to canoe this in a straight line !!! We were out for four hours covering 4 n/miles - what a top day, we will have to take the canoe out again soon:)
