27th December 2013 Skiing: Morillon Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny Max Speed: Distance Covered: Friday 27th December – **** Morillon skiing A good night apart from Gary boys doing handbrake turns at 1 a.m.!! It is the most glorious day with blue skies and the beautiful thick snow from yesterday:) We walked up to the lift pass office and got a 4 hour pass with insurance + the card (we should have remembered them from earlier in the year but left them at home!) for 75 euros! We were in the bubble lift by about 10.10. It is very busy today because I think it is probably the best day of the week for conditions and the last day’s skiing for most people who will be leaving to go home tomorrow. We made straight for our favourite run – The Marvel – it was officially shut but we ignored the fence and skied this brilliant run 3 times. I went off piste and was up to my knees as soon as we got there and had to walk out and then half way down Mag came round the corner and I was picking myself up from a face plant where I had lost both skis in the snow and was digging them out:) LOL. We had our lunch sitting on the step of an old barn in the sun. We then went up and over to Les Carroz – it was a lot quieter over there and the runs were really good. Paid a visit to Les Molliets on the way back and then our 4 hours were up so we skied down into the village instead of getting into the bubble for the return journey – giving us a little while longer on the snow. This run was officially closed too but we did it anyway and made a good job of negotiating the various ditches and roads which criss cross it. There were two little English girls out with their dad and the youngest, Emmi, about 4 years old, was a little way behind and kept falling over so Stephen picked her up at least twice. She was really lovely and thanked him for all his help when we got to the bottom! We are both exhausted! Returned to the van and drove to the supermarket to get some cake and then went back to our favourite stop at Sixt, hoping to walk again tomorrow. |
