18th July 2013
Windsurfing: Felixstowe dip
Wind Direction: NE
Wind Stength: 13-19kts
Surf / Sea State: flat to swell
Air Temperature: warm
Sea Temperature: warm
Weather: sunny and warm
Max Speed: 21.64 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 15.45 NM (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

First of the predicted NE wind at the dip today. Wind was blowing hard about 20kts so rigged 7.2 Hellcat /120L JP excite ride pro. Squiz Chris S and Chris P - then Lord Swain turned up later.
Went off nicely clocking 20.6 kts for some steady sailing, but after 3 runs I felt the wind was dropping. To be honest it started dropping slowly whilst rigging.
Only squiz wasn't planing much - went back and rigged 7.7H2/146L but again the wind dropped to 10kts. Rigged 8.7 H2 in frustration, with Squiz / both Chris's not planing fully began to doubt everthing. Luckily planed off nicely but wind and tide blowing you towards the manor end, had to keep to close reaching on the fin.
Sea was nice with good swell out in the river mouth and pretty flat elswhere.
Lord Swain was on the water so started the war with him as we reached hard and fast out to sea. He started dragging me down wind and he looked flat out, and the only way to take him accross the bow - would have been to go broad losing the high ground. We were neck and neck so decided against the challenge as he gybed off and I went further out.
We clocked 21.6kts on that reach in about 15kts of wind which was pretty good and we were dead even - on his antique F2 Zantos 145L and even more decrepid 8.0 Retro set like a balloon - all less than £50. That wouldn't pay for my board bag!
Again Squiz was struggling to plane as his old school Zantos 135L prefers a proper F4.
I Planed most of the late session but wind with tide meant no bearing off.
All in all a good evening but not windy enough to crank hard gybes or play waves.
Friday should be better, hopefully.
