Hiking - Walking: Felixstowe prom and Bawdsey Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny and warm then misty Max Speed: Distance Covered: 4.50 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Tuesday 7th May - walks **** – Sunrise Felixstowe prom and around
Bawdsey – sunny and warm then foggy for a bit.
Walk 1 – Felixstowe sunrise.
This is the start of a week of light winds with lots of warm sunshine and
as we both woke early Mag and I decided to head down to the seafront for a
walk, we had just missed the sunrise but there was some nice colour in the
sky down towards The Fludyers. The tide was very low and the sea flat as we
walked towards the Spa theatre before turning into the sap gardens and up
onto the clifftop and home returning to bed to do todays word games.
Walk 2 – Around Bawdsey Quay.
After breakfast I did my exercises in the sunny back garden and instead of
gardening Mag did some cooking today making meals for the rest of the
week:) I had a few plans for todays outing so made a picnic and did not
tell Mag the plan even if she is not keen on a surprise! I drove to
Felixstowe Ferry to park with the plan on heading over on the Ferry to
Bawdsey. If the Ferry was not operating we could walk along Tomlin Bank but
it was there so I surprised Mag with the news we were taking a short boat
trip across the River Deben. On reaching Bawdsey we turned right heading
for the lovely beach past Bawdsey Manor, we haven’t been over here for a
few years and you never forget how lovely it is over here, so remote making
it very quiet. We make it to the beach and reach the ling of old metal
piling to discover you cant walk along the top of them now as they in a
poor condition and with the tide high we could go no further so we returned
to the point to watch the Deben whizz out before returning to the Quay and
carry on to where we have spent a few nights I the camper van, then
continue on the road towards Bawdsey village but it is not great walking on
the road, we stop to watch a buzzard before returning to a bench by the
river to enjoy our picnic as it starts to cloud over so the sweatshirt is
now required! With the sun now well gone and the fog rolling in we return
to the Quay where Mag signals for the ferry to return and we cross the
Deben again with it cooling off in the gloom! Then back to the van and a
short drive home for a cuppa:)
