Windsurfing: La franqui Wind Direction: wnw Wind Stength: 20/30 Surf / Sea State: flat Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny Max Speed: 35.63 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered:
Saturday 4th May (or as Mag said May the forth be with you – a joke I
think!!!) windsurf **** - La Franqui - sunny and then a long walk
At Les Coussoules :) – 35.63 kts at least !!!
Another good night in our top Sigean Etang spot and watched the sun rise
– top as nice as in October :( then did exercises’ in the sunshine and
had breakfast which is when I tried my GT-31 gps and it is now officially
dead !!!!!!!! :(:(:( and can’t face windsurfing without it – it’s my
fault as it’s been on its last legs for ages and should have replaced it
sooner !!! . We then drove to Leucate and tried the four windsurfing shops
for a gps with no luck – the Naish shop having just sold their last!!! :(
Then tried two kite shops in La Franqui with no luck before heading without
much enthusiasm to the wooden pier – we then had the highlight of the day
when we saw several brightly coloured beeeaters after bugs over the etangs
and at least 10 birds of prey after the smaller birds – top sight :), the
nice German and three men from the Netherlands were there rigging a bit
bigger today but sadly no spare gps :( It was too nice a day not to go
windsurfing but it did seem a pointless exercise :( I rigged 6.4 and took
out the Falcon 80 which was just right most of the time :) Nearly all the
sailors were sailing above the wooden pier toward Port la Nouville –
nervous of the sandbanks. I had a good hour or so even if the wind to the
north is particularly gusty with some big lulls making getting upwind hard
at times. I decided it time to visit Mag for a bite to eat and spoke to a
lovely French couple and he was stopping windsurfing for 45mins for lunch
and lent me his GT-31 :) what a top man:) so I put my sd card in and headed
out, I seemed to waste loads of time making upwind to the north but had a
few nice runs in the flat water close to the shore. Then with my time
running out I continued my run past the pier and after sailing around a
couple of sandbanks nearly sailed to La Franqui in so’ooooooooooo flat
water – top run: and getting back was so easy too, all the way in the
flat water – must have been square for me to do that !!! It was so good I
did it again and on returning to the pier met the French couple on the
beach and he said I could have the gps another 15 mins so did it again and
it turned my 1star day into a 4 star day :) Starving by now returned to the
van for lunch and then decided to pack up and then there was a sad event :(
the younger og the two sailors from the Netherlands hit a sandbank at high
speed, broke his carbon boom and injured his stomach and was taken off the
beach to the doctors on a stretcher by the Pompiers – here’s wishing
him a speedy recovery!!! We then wasted another hour driving around Port
Leucate checking out a couple more windsurfing shops for a gps with no luck
– sad really as more wind forecast next week – might try the shop at
Gruissan?? Decided we better not push our luck at the Sigean Etang so went
to the free Aire/car park at Les Coussoules near La Franqui where we read
and ate cake before going for a long walk along the back lanes and back
along the beach – so in the end not a bad day :)
