The beuatiful island of Berneray joined to North Uist by a causeway is a place not to miss. The views from the beach on its east coast across the Sound of Harris to Harris are spectacular. The long white, sand dune backed beach along its west and north coasts offer perfect walks in solitude and the short climb to the top of Beinn Shleibhe is equally rewarding. For those camping, the shower facilities at the harbour may be more than welcome.
The island even has a small shop and cafe and a guest house.
There are beach break surf spots along the west and north coast beaches and windsurfing and kitesurfing is possible in all wind directions from somewhere along this beach, or from the beach on the east coast in the Soudn of Harris. You can even sail from the beach on the south coast near the ancient burial ground which looks out towards N. Uist, although it is quite a trek to get to it.
