Southerndown beach is located 20 miles west of Cardiff, and situated within the Heritage Coast of South Wales. The sandy, pebble beach is extensively used for swimming and surfing. To the east of the bay is Witches Point, designated under SSSI for geological importance. The heritage coast centre is also sited at the beach interpreting local coastal conservation interests.
To get there, take Junction 35 from the M4 towards Bridgend, then follow the B4524 through Ogmore and onto Southerndown.
This sandy beach faces SW and on good days can hold an extremely good, clean, beach break wave. NE winds are offshore.
Windsurfing is also possible here for intermediates and experts, with the best conditions being in NW winds 3 hours either side of low tide. Under such conditions, good bump and jump, or with SW swells, wave sailing is possible.
There is a car park on the beach and toilets and other amenities nearby. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months.
