Information
Ogmore by sea is a popular snady beach with excellent views out across the Bristol channel to the hills of Exmoor. To find it, follow the B4265 from Bridgend, turn right onto the B4524 and follow this to Ogmore. Parking is available in a Pay and Display Car Park next to the beach, shops are available in the village and the nearest accomodation is in Portcawl.

Ogmore-by-Sea can hold a good wave in a big SW swell. The most commonly surfed wave is the one at the river mouth, but a small right hander can also break just around the point, off the side of the slipway. Windsurfing is possible from the sandy beach at low tide, with Northerly or Southerly winds producing some good cross-shore sonditions. if this is coupled with a good swell, wave sailing on the rivermouth wave can be really good.

aghh to onsore in s/sw winds last time I sailed down from Newton into the waves here took me an hr to carry kit back as waves to onshore to get back out , only really used in Nw winds and falling tides , Treco ,s far better in same winds. Also the sewage farm futher upstream of river mouth leaves an unplesant smell an locals complain of feeling ill after being in water here.

Sickness

Apparently the sewage works, during periods of high rainfall, flush their tanks into the river - hence the smell and the dead fish washing up. I personally got "something" from that beach a year or two ago - spent 3 days not sure which end to aim at the toilet. Some time after was diagnosed with H. Pylori and had to have that treated with a massive dose of antibiotics. If you use this beach (As i still would) make sure its not after heavy rain fall!
