A pleasant sandy beach backed by dunes, with all the facilities for a family day out. Berrow is part o the 7 mile long stretch of sand running from Burnham-on-Sea to Brean Down. As well as being popular with families and Forces-of-Nature sports enthusiasts, it is popular with sea anglers, who can find fish three hours a day either side of the high tide. The sands are backed by dunes that are rich in wildlife and include a local nature reserve with a way-marked trail. Car parking is allowed on sections of the beach. There are public conveniences, cafes and other leisure amenities close by.
From a windsurfing perspective, Berrow is good when the wind has south in it, as it is cleaner than nearby beaches. A strong westerly and a swell combine to produce the biggest waves (in somerset) not jaws for sure but a lot of fun and will spank you if not paying attention.
Reaches of several miles on one tack can be done, a hoot in a group.
Hazzards
Down towards Brean there are small posts from WW11 which are being removed.
When the water drops on to the clay/mud flats is really goes out quickly, so don't stay out too long.
Why sail here and not Brean?
1. Quicker to get to.
2. The tide comes in earlier and out later.
