Good local club. Very popular for Kitesurfers and Windsurfers. Two miles across is Bradwell shoreline. The river runs west to east, so some good little ramps and small swells when there is any East in the wind. At half tide there are some excellent flatwater areas, for pulling out sharp tricks or learning, various launch spots over three miles.
Loads of car parking, but in height of summer you must launch to the east of the windsurf club hut. Camping great, lots of static caravans as well. Good local kite/windsurf repairer in Shorestitch, see The Mersea Windsurfers website for gallery and to get a feel.. Newcomers always warmly welcome.
This beach can be tough on kit and feet, so wear boots, oyster shells are pretty gnarly.
Several good local eateries, take aways, cafe's and pubs. A real good spot unless the wind is northerly. Then it's good for wakeboarding at high tide.
